Patek Philippe Collectors Event Invitation

When we were commissioned to make a creative invitation for Patek Philippe’s New Collections event in London, we were excited to put our heads together and let our imagination fly. The final product is a perfect representation of the fine attention to detail, precision and unique approach Patek Philippe is known for. We applied copper and black metallic foils to create the text and, with the clever use of mechanical watch parts, created a truly original event invitation card.

The Client

Patek Philippe is one of the most iconic names in the world of fine watchmaking. The Swiss company strives for perfection and flawless design in everything they create, and pride themselves on their reliable, high quality and unique timepieces. A family-run business since 1839, they have over a century of expertise that delights and impresses their clients time and time again.

The Brief

Here at Downey, we specialise in creative invitation design - and this event invitation card is a perfect example of this skillset.

Patek Philippe came to us in May of 2016, seeking 20 invitations to a private viewing of the new collection. Over the course of a couple of months, we delivered this brief in full.

Here is the story of how we did it.

The Process

Our design process always begins with ideation. We take what the client has given us - in this case, a relatively sparse brief - and sit down together to find a unique and bespoke design solution.

The most interesting aspect of this design - and there are many - is that some of the lettering is made up of real Patek Philippe watch components, such as gears. We hand-mounted each one of them individually onto the invitation card, giving the finished project visible texture and a truly unique look.

Interestingly enough, the hardest part of this portion of the design process was accessing enough of the watch mechanisms. We wanted to use rejected parts from real Patek Philippe watches but, because of the quality of this watchmaker, they were few and far between.

The Result

The finished project was a beautiful and unique invitation. It features a pleasant thickness and, once opened, the recipient is greeted with the event’s details on the insides. However, the real impact comes from viewing the real watch components that have been attached to it.

Individuals who are invited to private events such as this one are knowledgeable watch connoisseurs, investors and enthusiasts, so an invitation that features individual watch mechanisms is bound to excite and titulate them - and encourage them to attend the event itself. It shows Patek Philippe’s ability to truly connect with their clientele and meet their specific demands and requirements.

This is truly an invitation that appeals to a very unique and distinct target audience - and we are pleased to say the finished project hit the nail on the head.
