Tutankhamun Invitations

Client

Our private client approached us with a unique request when the Tutankhamun exhibition came to the Saatchi Gallery in 2019. They wanted exclusive invitations for their staff to attend a preview of the exhibition, which doubled as a celebration of the client's birthday. This project provided an exciting opportunity to blend historical aesthetics with modern design.

The Brief

The client wanted invitations that captured the grandeur and historical significance of the Tutankhamun exhibition. This gave us the chance to flex our creative muscles and enjoy journeying to Ancient Egypt.  At Downey, we have had the chance to create all kinds of themed pieces, such as scroll wedding menus, superhero invitations and whimsical brochures. We jump at the chance to have fun with the art of creating, and produce something utterly bespoke and fun for our clients. 

The Process

Drawing inspiration from the iconic sarcophagus of Tutankhamun, we wanted to make this the primary visual element of the invitation. The front of the card featured a gold, multi-level embossed image of Tutankhamun's sarcophagus, designed to be highly striking. We used a single foil colour and created a tri-fold card that unfolded into the specific shape of the sarcophagus, enhancing the tactile experience.

Inside the card, we incorporated a bright, glossy photo of the real sarcophagus to provide a vivid contrast to the gold foil exterior. The interior design included gold foil and green print, flat printed onto white card. The green colour matched the brand, ensuring the invitations were both on-brand and creatively appealing. This white card was then mounted onto the back with a gold frame. 

The Result

The result was a set of invitations that resonated with the grandeur of the Tutankhamun exhibition and the client's brand identity, making the preview event and birthday celebration truly memorable.
